Artist Statement

I have recently understood my art practice as a visual ecosystem in which works function independently and as part of a larger evolving structure that archives recurring symbols, narratives, disruptions and modes of viewing.

Through drawing, video, books and assemblage I explore cautionary tales and the experience of being feminine. I am particularly interested in the power structures, behavioural expectations and emotional compliance embedded within cautionary tales and feminine narratives. Many of the works draw on inherited stories and moments of vulnerability.

Engaging with the work, viewers are often required to physically lean in or alter their body position as images are partially concealed, viewed through peep holes or exaggerated through large scale projection. Through this process, viewing becomes self-conscious, intimate and voyeuristic.

Influenced by storytelling, psychological tension, communal making practices and recent returns to formal study, I am increasingly interested in how artworks can function as evolving emotional archives rather than isolated fixed outcomes.
